Our story
Based in Somerford, Congleton, working across Cheshire, Manchester and North Staffordshire.
Mike Maccabe started as an electrician in 1988 and set up Amara Electrical Contractors Ltd in 2007. In that time the wiring regulations have moved from the 15th Edition to the 18th, rewireable fuses have given way to RCBO consumer units, and the average home has gone from a handful of sockets to an EV on the drive. Mike has worked through every one of those changes on real houses, not in a classroom.
Most people come to us at a decision point, a period property in Congleton with wiring flagged on survey, an EICR with C2 codes and a deadline, a new kitchen the board won't take, or lights that keep tripping with no clear cause. What you need is a straight answer, a fixed price and a date.
House rewires are our specialism. The electrics are the easy part, the skill is running new circuits through an occupied, furnished home without wrecking it. We plan room by room, restore power by the end of each day wherever it's safe, and leave the house spotless. Every rewire is signed off with a 10-year electrical installation certificate.
We also carry out EICR reports, home buyer electrical reports, consumer unit upgrades, OZEV-approved EV charger installations, sockets, lighting, mains-wired smoke and CO alarms, and emergency fault-finding, mainly domestic, with light commercial work on request.
Based in Congleton, we cover Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent, including Stockport, Cheadle, Wilmslow, Altrincham and Crewe, a deliberately tight patch, so one electrician can turn up when he said he would.
Mission and standards
Our philosophy is simple: an electrician should be judged on the certificate he leaves behind and the state of the house when he goes. Everything below is how we make that repeatable rather than lucky.
Every circuit we install or alter is inspected and tested to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, and you receive the paperwork that proves it. Mike holds City & Guilds 2391 inspection and testing, so the testing is done by the man who did the work, not subcontracted out.
You get a written quote before any work begins, on jobs of every size. The price agreed is the price paid; our reviews repeatedly say the job was completed exactly to the quote given. Fault-finding call-outs are the one exception: those are charged at an hourly rate, made clear before we attend.
We do not ask for a deposit, even on a full rewire. You are never funding our materials or holding risk on a job that has not started.
Rewires are planned room by room around your life. Dust sheets down, power back on at the end of the day wherever it is safe to do so, and the house left clean. Customers mention the tidiness more than any other single thing.
