Our core specialism

Full house rewires,
done once and done right

A rewire is disruptive when it is handled badly and straightforward when it is planned properly. Mike surveys the property, agrees the socket, lighting and circuit layout with you, then quotes a fixed price in advance. You know the cost and the timescale before a single floorboard comes up, and there is no deposit to pay.

  • Fixed price agreed in writing before work starts
  • 10-year electrical installation certificate on completion
  • NICEIC 6-year insurance-backed guarantee behind the work
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish, house left clean each day

About Amara

A two-person firm
that turns up when it says it will

Michael “Mike” Maccabe has been a qualified electrician since leaving school in 1988: 38 years of hands-on experience in the trade. He founded Amara Electrical Contractors Ltd in 2007 on a straightforward approach: do the job properly, communicate clearly, turn up when you say you will, and leave the place tidy. That approach has not changed since.

A NICEIC Approved Contractor and rewire specialist, Mike covers everything from full house rewires and consumer unit upgrades to EICR reports and EV charger installations across Cheshire, Manchester and the surrounding area. The team is two people, so the person who quotes your job is the person who does it.

How it works

Three steps from first call

  1. 01

    Free site visit and quote

Mike surveys the job and gives you a free quote the same day or promptly after the visit; fixed price on larger work.

  3. 03

    Booked in, done, certificated

The work is carried out to the agreed price and timescale, tested, certificated and the property left clean.

Mike and Sandra recently completed a full rewire for us and they were fantastic from start to finish. Great communication from the first enquiry, professional and reliable throughout, completed the job to a very high standard and left the house spotless.

Mike did an absolutely fantastic job with a full house rewire. He kept us updated the whole time, worked exactly to the quote given, and even finished early! I've already recommended him to others.

Mike came out to complete an EICR, and after that a few bits of extra work including installing a new consumer unit. On all occasions he was on time, friendly and let us know what was happening.

Mike completed a full rewire on a ground floor flat; the job was quite complicated but he found a solution. He is efficient, tidy and cleans up. Mike kept me informed throughout the job, turned up when expected and was good value for money.

Common questions

Answers before
you pick up the phone

How much does a full house rewire cost?+

Every property is different, so rewires are quoted as a fixed price after a site visit rather than from a price list. Quotes are always free and given the same day or promptly after the visit, and no deposit is required, even on a full rewire.

Are your quotes really free?+

Yes. Quotes are always free and every job is quoted before work starts, including smaller jobs. Fault-finding call-outs are charged at an hourly rate, which is made clear before we attend.

What guarantees do I get?+

Full rewires are covered by a 10-year electrical installation certificate. Certain products and components carry a 12-month manufacturer warranty. As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, our work is also covered by NICEIC's 6-year insurance-backed guarantee should Amara ever cease trading.

Are you NICEIC registered?+

Yes. Amara Electrical Contractors Ltd is a NICEIC Approved Contractor, registration number 041430. Mike holds City & Guilds 2391 inspection and testing and works to the 18th Edition wiring regulations.

Do I need an EICR before a new consumer unit?+

Mike recommends one before every consumer unit change. It confirms the existing circuits are safe to connect to a new board and avoids surprises once the work starts. The EICR is charged separately.

Which areas do you cover?+

Congleton and the wider Cheshire area, plus Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Stockport, Cheadle, Wilmslow, Altrincham and Crewe.

Do you take on commercial work?+

The business is mainly domestic, but light commercial work is undertaken on request. Give Mike a call to discuss it.

Are you insured?+

Yes: £5,000,000 public liability insurance.

Electrician in Congleton and house rewire specialists across Cheshire

Amara Electrical Contractors Ltd is a domestic electrical firm based at 8 Amsom Close, Somerford, Congleton, established in 2007 by Michael “Mike” Maccabe. Mike qualified as an electrician after leaving school in 1988, giving him 38 years in the trade, and holds City & Guilds 2391 for inspection and testing alongside the current 18th Edition wiring regulations. Amara is a NICEIC Approved Contractor, registration 041430, and carries £5,000,000 of public liability insurance.

Full house rewires are the core specialism. Older properties across Congleton, Crewe and the wider Cheshire area often still run on rubber-sheathed cable, rewireable fuse boards and too few sockets for the way a modern household actually lives. A full rewire replaces the lot: new circuits, new consumer unit, new accessories, tested and certificated. Because rewires are quoted as a fixed price after a site visit, you know the total cost and the timescale before the work begins, and no deposit is required. Every full rewire is completed with a 10-year electrical installation certificate.

An EICR, an Electrical Installation Condition Report, is the formal inspection of an existing installation. Landlords need one to meet their obligations under the Private Rented Sector regulations, and Mike is registered on the Private Rented Scheme. Homeowners increasingly ask for the same report when buying, which is why home buyer electrical reports are handled separately: it is the same inspection, but the findings matter differently when you are still able to negotiate on a purchase. Mike also recommends an EICR before every consumer unit upgrade as best practice, so that the circuits being connected to a new board are known to be sound. The report is charged separately from the board change.

Consumer unit upgrades bring older fuse boxes up to current standards with modern RCBO protection, and are one of the most common jobs requested across Stockport, Cheadle, Wilmslow and Altrincham. EV charger installation is the other growth area: Amara is OZEV approved and an approved installer for Hypervolt, myenergi (Zappi), Ohme and Pod Point, fitting 7kW home chargers. Being OZEV approved means customers may be eligible for the relevant grants where they qualify. Alongside these, Amara handles sockets, lighting, smoke and alarm installations, and emergency electrical work; call-outs for fault-finding are charged at an hourly rate, which is explained before attendance.

Work is carried out across Congleton, Cheshire, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Stockport, Cheadle, Wilmslow, Altrincham and Crewe. The team is two people, so the electrician who quotes your job is the electrician who carries it out. Light commercial work is undertaken on request, though the business is mainly domestic. Amara holds a 4.8-star rating from 58 Google reviews, with customers consistently highlighting punctuality, clear communication, tidy working and honest pricing.
